I'm kind of a sucker for Japanese food these days, and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions?

Since this topic probably isn't just for me, you can post stores from all over the Pittsburgh area! <3

Oh man, I know a few good places, but I don't know the names of any of them...I'll check and post again. There's one on Ellsworth, I believe, that's fantastic, and there are a couple Korean places that sell Japanese food, like the Seoul Mart and...The one that's near where the Squirrel Hill Theater used to be...
Pittsburgh native doesn't know how to give directions. Like I said, I'll post again.

The one on Ellsworth is called the Tokyo Food Store. Neat place since you can also buy magazines and dvds there. : )
If you want general Asian food stores, I highly recommend the Lotus grocery store in the Strip District.

Hope this helps!

TOKYO FOOD STORE
YES
IT IS DELICIOUS
GO THERE
They also have a lot of DVDs and magazines and basically it's really really cool.

I think you mean Young's Oriental Grocery on Forward Avenue, right next to the GetGo.

I was under the impression that "X, where the Y used to be" was precisely how Pittsburghers give directions :-)

Yes.
Precisely.
I can give directions like a Pittsburgher, but that basically means that by any other city's standards, I have no idea what I'm doing.

I'd say to stay away from Tokyo Food Store unless you're sure they're the only place that has specifically what you're looking for.  While the store is beautiful, and it is actually one of the few places stocked mainly with Japanese goods and run by Japanese people, it's generally much more expensive than pretty much anywhere else in town, item for item.  Lotus in the Strip District is probably your best bet.  It's big, cheap, fairly well stocked, and almost has reasonable hours.
