I've been accepted for History of Anime and Manga, in which I'll we'll look not only at anime and manga themselves, but how they evolved throughout Japanese history and what aspects of Japanese culture influenced them. I'll post again when I've planned out more of the panel and know what I'll have time to talk about.
Panel is Friday from 5-6PM.
----------------------------------------------------
Thanks to everyone that attended! A few questions that I had at the end:
-The 25-minute (I understated it by a few minutes!) film by Makoto Shinkai is called Voices of a Distant Star (Hoshi no Koe) and can be viewed here. He animated the entire thing himself on a personal Mac computer. He and his girlfriend voice the two characters.
-I do not know if Hayao MIyazaki is planning to direct again. He is credited as a screenwriter in Ghibli's 2010 and 2011 films (both of which I forgot to mention, sorry!) As far as I can tell, Ghibli will keep making films until it is no longer profitable.
And, as promised here are most of my sources.

Please leave feedback in this thread! I would like to do this panel again, perhaps looking at what cultural influences spawned popular genres. I intended to do more of that, but was overwhelmed by sheer amount of information.
