Summer Schedule
Whatever people bring :)

Location Change
We will be in Doherty Hall 2210 on 6/16 and 6/23.  We will return to Margaret Morrison 103 on 6/30.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So it's Saturday night, you're somewhere in the vicinity of Oakland/Squirrel Hill/Shadyside, and you're bored out of your mind.  Or maybe you're in dire need of the company of a roomful of nerds.  Well, then, do we have an offer for you!

What is this?
Vermillion is the anime club at Carnegie-Mellon University.  Although the primary source for members is the student body, we are receptive to anyone who wants to stop by and hang out.  As long as there's space in the room, there's space for you.  Meetings are every Saturday night at 7 PM and we run for around four hours, give or take, depending on the agenda.

Where at?
We meet in Margaret Morrison Hall on CMU's campus in Room 103.  Here's a map!

The parking garage is right along Forbes Avenue, and Margaret Morrison Hall is a short walk around Gesling Stadium.  Room 103 is located on the ground floor where indicated.  Occasionally we have to meet in A14, which is one floor down and on the opposite side of the building.

So what's on the agenda?
General operating procedure is that the scheduler chooses some shows at the beginning of each semester and club members vote on what they want to watch.  Then we watch them.  In addition to nightly anime viewings, we have members give presentations about a topic or fandom they enjoy, discuss group projects (manga drawing, etc.), and the ever-popular AMV Time.

Does it cost money?
Not if you don't want it to.  Club membership gives you voting privileges and access to the club's library of anime, but you can still come to meetings and participate without buying in.  Chip in for pizza ($5) only if you wish to partake.  And parking in the CMU garage (and the Morewood Gardens parking lot) is free on weekends if you have/need to drive over.

I'd like to learn more!
Here are some handy links.
  • Club Website: The official club site with schedule, member interaction, and project info.
  • VermillionCh: The club's Youtube channel, where we post stuff we've created!
I'll gladly take any questions people have about the club in this thread, and I'll also try to keep it updated with various events that happen besides regular meetings.

This weekend marks the beginning of CMU's spring semester, and that means the anime club is back in business.  New shows, new activities, and -- with your help -- new people!  Here's a look at what we did last semester:
  • Watched Ano Hana, Steins;gate, and Tiger & Bunny.  In addition, we previewed a number of other series at the scheduler's discretion, and much fun was had with the dub of Special Duty Combat Unit Shinesman.
  • Participated in group activities such as a trivia game and a group Pokemon battle over wifi.
  • Started a manga circle to produce an original one-shot.
  • Created a parody dub of the Japanese creation myth, released to our Youtube channel.
  • Held an on-campus art contest with the theme, "The Modern Samurai."
This semester we've added a new officer, the Activities Coordinator, to make sure we're doing even more stuff than just watching anime.  Which, of course, we will be doing.  Stop by on Saturday for our first official meeting of the new year.  Hope to see some of you there!

Just a heads up that the next two meetings (3/10 and 3/17) are unofficial due to CMU's spring break, and 3/24 will also be unofficial due to Tekkoshocon.  The regular schedule of activities (which is updated in the first post) will resume on 3/31!

This weekend is Carnegie-Mellon University's annual spring carnival!  The Morewood Gardens parking lot will be transformed into a carnival midway with rides, games, and booths constructed by student organizations according to the theme "As Seen on TV."  Vermillion will be selling Japanese-style dessert crepes, along with cotton candy and cupcakes, so you'll be fueled for good times.

Also, this weekend's meeting will feature the debut of Anime Charades!
