The convention starts on the 21st, which is a Wednesday...

So...is that the OFFICIAL FIRST DAY, or is that simply the day that badges can be picked up if you pre-regged? And if that's the case, does the con really start on Thursday the 22nd?

I'm sort of confused...so if anyone can help me out I'd be grateful! I'd like to know what day it really starts on so I can have all of my cosplays figured out before then

Thanks!!
Cosplays for Tekko X-2

Thrusday = an OC

Friday = Eridan Ampora (Homestuck), Medusa (Soul Eater) as a backup

Saturday = Vriska Serket (Homestuck), if a concert is that night, switching to a 'punk' version of Vriska later

Sunday = Grell Sutcliff (Black Butler)

My understanding is this:
There is NO CONVENTION on wednesday. The con floor will not be set up and ready. There will be no convention activities at the Wyndham.

What WILL happen Wednesday, is that there will be Tekko-run events at a nearby theater. (The hollywood theater?) Mainly showing of anime videos, shows, movies, etc.

To my knowledge there is NO convention at ALL on Wednesday. It is an "extra day" in that there are Tekko-run activities happening and its the day before the start of the "real" con.

Frankly, I have seen a TON of confusion over this, and to be honest, a somewhat disappointing lack of information. It was officialy said quite some time ago that there would be an "extra day" this year, but little to no information on what that day actually was.
We probably have a thousand people who are going to show up at the Wyndham on Wednesday, and freak out because there's no con yet.
I dont want to criticise the staff, I know you guys all work very, very hard, but this is something that I feel really should have been made as clear as possible from the start. Plus, this is something that would take nothing more than a few paragraphs on the main page of the site to totally clear up.

Ive heard that gogal has been very sick this last year.  The conchair (jeanie) and he live together and she aparently has been caring for him
could explain why the tekko info has been slow to get out.  never seems like people other than gogal or jeanie say anything publicly.

Here's what I know about Wednesday: all convention-related activities will be taking place at the Hollywood Theater on Potomac Ave in Dormont. Convention pricing for the hotel block (to the best of my knowledge) doesn't start until Thursday, when activities move downtown.

Omega, not true, the events at the Hollywood theater are a part of the convention.  You need a convention badge to participate in those events.  You can pick up or buy a badge at the hollywood.  There will be programming there. Therefore, part of the CONVENTION is there.  Thus, convention on Wednesday, please don't spread misinformation.

You are correct in there will NOT be activities at the Wyndham Grand on Wednesday.

ohhhh, okay! Thanks for clearing things up :)

So, if we don't attend the events on Wed at the Theater, we can still pick up our badges on Thursday at the con?

OH GOD YES!
We aren't that obnoxious/stupid/arrogant to only have badge pickup Wednesday at the Hollywood Theater.

You can pick up your badges Thursday->Sunday at the Wyndham Grand.
OR
Wednesday at the Hollywood Theater.

What time do hotel events start on Thursday?  I am driving in from 5 hours away with the princess and so the less school she misses the better, and actually very happy there isn't hotel stuff on Wednesday, because it makes the entire probably leave wed night / thursday morning more doable ... please please be able to leave thursday morning, one less night at my mother in laws would be awesome ;)

The Thursday start time has yet to be determined, so don't quote me on this, but in the past we've opened anywhere from 9a-10a.  We'll have official times up before too long.

I'd suggest using a Park & Ride station since street parking is very limited and frustrating. The theater is at the Potomac stop on the T's Red line.

T fares are here. Red line schedule here (PDF).

As someone who doesn't use the T much, I'm not sure if you could use a transfer for your return journey. Transfers are good for 3 hours and cost $1 when you pay your fare.

You can use a transfer for your return trip as long as you use it within the 3 hour time limit.

If you're looking for a place to park near the theater, there is a parking lot on Epsy Ave which my aunt and I used for free when we went to the Fullmetal Alchemist: Sacred Star of Milos premiere.

I have to say that I'm very glad I checked out the FAQ today, because my group had no knowledge that Wednesday was actually not a convention day at the Wyndham Grand. It's true that there's "Tekkshocon events happening Wednesday"... just we were very taken aback by not being told upfront we'd have to go out of our way for only 4 hours of programming.

Needless to say my group thinks it's stupid. There's probably multiple reasons why the convention couldn't start at the hotel Wednesday afternoon... but we're disappointed that attendees weren't informed sooner or perhaps in big bold letters if it's something that was so easily missed. It should have been all consolidated at the hotel, or just not happen on Wednesday. [/disgruntled]

The fact that Wednesday night wasn't happening at the Wyndham was announced months ago.

not to mention the average attendee would check up on things such as this long before the convention begins by utilizing the forums, homepage on the website, or checking scheduled events on facebook and other mediums. quite frankly sir, i believe YOU were the only one who, at this point, is unaware.

While I agree that this information wasnt exactly a secret, I also feel it was not made anywhere near clear enough. For the longest time, there was no info at all about what/where Wednesday would be. It was posted here or there a few times, but unless a person just happened to look at that exact spot at the right time, they wouldnt have know. Since this is the first year we HAVE a Wednesday, it really should have been somewhere in plain view, in big bold letters, underlined, etc, just to make it abundantly clear right from the get-go.
Im not saying that nobody knew and this is a giant sudden shock, but what wednesday was, was not made nearly clear enough until recently.
