Tekkofaire the new KKF? :P

Don't kid.  I've been advocating something very like that for about a year.

Well if you guys every did an outdoorsy event, I would totally be down with that.  I have always wanted to go to a con like that, if done right it could be very cool.

It seems like the theme of this thread is "Believe me, guys, staff has explored every possible venue."  :)

OK, there's something I'm confused about to be honest. When I went to Tekko 2010, the con was still at the DLLCC (but without the Westin housing us). And now apparently it's too expensive to go back to. Did the price of booking it for a weekend go UP or were we there even though we couldn't afford it anyway?

I'm pretty sure there's a locker in an abandoned portion of Schenley High that leads to space.

In all honesty the answer to the question is "yes"

In order to continue to run there, for Tekkoshocon IX we had a couple of problems. One was there were very few dates available outside of Easter weekend. The weekends that were available we couldn't get the space we needed. Next was the cost had risen from the year before. The there was the fact we had a such a significant number of counterfeit badges that (we caught about 50 Saturday Night alone) it became economically irresponsible to operate there.
In order for XI to operate the show would have raised prices to a point no one would be willing to come to it.  I am sorry, we cannot charge Otakon prices for a show 1/10th its size.

I can go into more details as to what happened. I recommend at our Events, if there is a "Gogal's Fireside Chat" come and ask your questions. I know I covered this at the one this year... I aired a bit of dirty laundry at the same time.
Your fate is mine to decide

What would it take to do this? I'm leaving this question broad and vague because I do not know where else to start. I've heard of other outdoor cons and other large outside events that are not too far from the city. (Pennsic, Ragnarok, Fieldcon, etc.) Tekkofaire, if money and placing were right, could be done, Prager. Then it's just finding manpower, yes?

I think Zerker, that we are talking about two different base concepts.

As far as I can tell (From mentioning things like Rag, and Fieldcon) you are thinking more of a ren faire vibe.  I, on the other hand am talking about something on the order of a Japanese town or district festival. (There are plenty of examples in anime)  For yours, we would need a large, open area (Which would not be difficult to find) and the ability to run tech out to the open area, since we do a LOT of things that require power. (Which may well prove to be problematic)  My concept requires space in a urbanized area (for example, and let me stress this is ONLY for example: Market Square...  Trust me, you do NOT want to know how much it would cost to do this in Market square.) where we could set up stalls and perhaps have indoor areas for events that may require it.

In both cases, we would need a venue that was close-ish to lodging and other things that I cannot think of at the moment.  Gogal can give more specifics on the requirements.  I would also emphasize that this is only an idea that has been bandied about.
