Hi! Well I enjoyed Tekko over all! Yes actually I loved it! Another great year I am not sure how or why people are complaining D: Meanie people :P Anyways! To what I want to really suggest....
I know we need to bring money in for a bigger and better show.. Correct? Well what about the dance comp and all things like that? Make people that join sign a wavier.... In other words if we don't do it alreadyyyyy.... Film it! Make them sign a wavier, film it, sell it either online or the following year! And who ever does not sign just don't film their section or what not and put it on video. I am sure that would be a big seller? I would buy it at the least :/
I know on the Tekko fb page I know some of us were joking about some ideas of buying some unused old buildings.... What about that idea? That way we have our own "home" There are quite a few places sitting there that we could try to fund raise to buy? I don't know it was some ideas floating around :)
Even still we could fund raise just for the general Tekko shows! Like car washes and what not? Who knows that was another idea floating around someone said something about Avon also I believe :)
This is all I can think of right now :/ I will probably be back with more lol
Some Ideas to add

As far as buying a "home" there was talk about it at one point. But the facts of upkeep seem like a major problem. Remember we're all volunteers...
As far as selling video...It's extremely complicated...The main problem runs into the fact that your selling something with someone else's licensed character. And I know what the argument after this post is gonna be: "But because it's a fan thing it makes it okay!/Deathcom takes pictures of Characters, this is the same thing!" Well, it's not... Videos have a much stricter set of rules than a picture does. Also, what if some ones face from the crowd gets shown, or a stage hand that might not have signed. Or even worse, having a guest like Uncle Yo on the screen. All of these factors are huge problems that can really on be solved by throwing more money at the project and when you're looking for a quick turn around on a small investment, it's not an economically sound decision to do it.

Plus unless everyone was over 18 those waivers would be useless. And I doubt anyone would want a No Kids Allowed dance comp or masquerade at the con.

What about a Con Care Package that can be bought? I remember back in college that someone could order a care package for you during finals week. What if the con bought things like some healthy and some yummy snacks, put them in a nice clear bag and added a message from whomever sent it on a card? If it isn't very popular than the excess food items can go to staff consumption or sale at KK/Sangawa if it will keep. It will be a way of the con making some more money and for congoers to have a present from someone who wants to make sure they take care of themselves at con.

Right now we are exploring all possible opportunities available to us, but there are a few arcane structural reasons why we can't legally accept donations of money or hold certain other fundraising activities. It was a stretch getting the Rock Band DLC sponsorship from Beyond Madness & Genius Games because the DLC credit was technically money at first. Any additional details on this are either "inside baseball" that's so boring and impossible for me to really understand, let alone stay awake through; or just are bits of information that shouldn't/can't be revealed publically. As I get a clearer understanding of what we can and can't do right now, I'll relay it. Your passion and enthusiasm to help really encourages a lot of us.

Also, the anime industry is having a hard enough time moving DVDs off shelves. If people who claim to be fans of anime aren't buying the official video, why would they spend their money on a video of con people doing seemingly random stuff?

Potentially expensive, but oh man, I would love it so much if when you registered, you were handed a lanyard, badge, program, and bar of soap.

Its not that people didn't have soap, it was that they chose not to use it. I honestly don't think people want more random stuff to carry around. and yes, even food.
As for the con care package food thing, that's a huge liability and with food allergies, better to just not probably. Either people won't like what is in it, or they will complain it was too much. There are two viable ways for an event to raise money. A> Get more people. to get more people, it has to come from outside of Pittsburgh, there are only so many people in pittsburgh. To get people to travel, they have to know what they are traveling for. This year there was precious little information on what was happening what day, I STILL don't know what happened Wednesday, but I made a decision without knowing, I wasn't driving up earlier for it. Knowing WHEN main things like Masq and the bands are well in advance makes it easier for people to travel. While it might be hard to say so and so is going on at 9 on saturday, I bet the decision that so and so was playing late on saturday was made VERY early, as in when the band was booked.
The second way, is to up the fee. if we have 4 thousand people, and extra 5 bucks is an extra 20 grand for the venue. Prices could go up about 5 bucks and still be comparable to other cons in the area. taking into account the smaller size of tekko than some of those.

I've done this in the past as a game show consolation prize, but threw in some random actual prizes with them, too. If you did say, an 8 oz of water, 3 oz snack, and trial deodorant, you might get away with cost effectiveness? I'm pretty sure the cost would be less than $5/head.
