I'm a guy with an idea wielding a sharpened pool-table on a stick whose catchphrase is "FEEL MY WIND!" while flinging happy cows from California from my TARDIS with Travis "MeatyAlbatross" Willingham eating 3 bowls of Ramen. HEYOOOOO~
Probably in the top 2 of best Tekkos I've attended, and I started with Tekko VI. Pre-reg lines were incredibly fast/short, the traffic was handled as best as humanly possible (even with Time Lords mucking about), and dispite what I felt was a lack of Voice-Actors/Industry people on the guest list (sorry! I'm not a Japanese music person) I thought the spread and quality of panels was superb.
I'll be leaving individual feedback in respective threads but there are two hopefully constructive points of criticism I want to bring up in my summary:
1) Wednesday. To me the convention started on Thursday with Wednesday being really out of place. I've spoken before about this, but it should either be where the convention is for the remainder of the week or just not happen at all.
2) The "Better than it Sounds" panel. This panel was incredibly helpful and entertaining!! This needs to be supported and lengthened in time because I feel every year there are gems getting lost in the overwhelming muck of shows coming from Japan. I can't say this enough, this panel needs to be a recurring one with a spotlight on it!!

What makes you feel like either of those options is better than how it was this year? Were you at the Hollywood Wednesday? From what I understand, it cost less than $400 and 300 people showed up. I was there and I had a good time, and the people I saw around me were having a good time too. So why should Tekko cut out an event that basically cost them nothing, didn't charge us extra, helped promote and bring business to a local theater, and most importantly let us hang out with friends and have fun?

The problem with the event at the hollywood is that thre was basically no information on it. I STILL don't know what happened there, so I certainly was not going to adjust my plans to be there for it since I had to travel. If I had flown in instead of driven, I would have been annoyed at the fact there was basically no information on the event at any point in time.
The convention was Thursday - Sunday at the hotel with a special bonus event Wednesday, and it should have been advertised as such and that event should have had some information published about it. I don't know if there was local word of mouth, since I am not local.

Did you ever ask about what was going on? I don't have time to dig through forum or Facebook posts right now, but I know for a fact that all but the very specific details were given months ago. Anime on the big screen, card/board/video games, pick up your badges early, hang out with friends. That is exactly what happened. They showed two episodes of Fairy Tail and then everybody voted on watching the movie The Girl Who Leapt Through Time or Summer Wars, we chose Summer Wars. It was said one of the reasons they hadn't announced exactly what would be played was because they were still trying to acquire the rights to a few things.

That is EXACTLY how it was advertised, that was a point I saw stressed numerous times. I suggest you follow Facebook and forum posts as sometimes information will pop up that is easy to over look. Also listen to the Tekkoshocast, the one after Sangawa (in July) was the first to outline Wednesday at the Hollywood I believe. But most importantly, if you have a question ask it.

Hurray for Tekko spending only a fraction on the theater site and for them supporting local business... good stuff and all, but having talked to some people in the massive queues for panels, there's more than two of us that feel the ball was dropped somewhere along the line.
I'm trying to be constructive here and not just bash bash bash... so what it comes down to is: it should have been in the Tekko homepage banner (not just the Wyndham Grand as its been advertised); it should have been mentioned on its own page on the released Schedule pdf the Sunday before the con started (even if details were sketchy, that thing was updated 3 times before Thursday!!); and there should have been directions to the Theater alongside those to the Wyndham Grand on the "How to get here" page which also reiterated Wednesday night's programming occuring off-site. That's a pretty reasonable critique.

Exactly. I attend several conventions and I dont have time to be needing to follow the tumbler, facebook, and forums for any particular one. I drove in 5 hours to go to this convention because I have friends in the area and it's an easy one to take my daughter to cause the inlaws are right there -- HOWEVER I have two conventions within 40 minutes of me and at least 3 others that are closer than Tekko. Yes, I like Tekko, but *shrug*
There was an entire THREAD on the forums about what was happening Wednesday and no one EVER actually responded to that with info before I had to leave town on Wednesday to be there for Thursday.
I would love to see Tekko grow, because I think a lot of the people that run it are really great, and I can't say enough good about the staffies that helped me out that weekend between 3 panels and helping other people with theirs. It is a FUN convention, but there is a definaite word of mouth thing that happens and those of us that can't be at every tekko event really do end up listening to a massive game of telephone to figure out what is going on.

Perhaps it's poor wording, but you're making Wendesday sound like it was planned just for the 20 odd chaps that stick here year round and a person should have been "in the know" to be there Wednedsay night. That's way too much "if you had looked through the archives & podcasts" to expect the average joe to decipher it for him/herself.

First I'll apologize, I didn't intend my post to sound "preachy". I myself have brought up the issue of having information in the forums that is not easily viewable on the main site or Facebook. For a lot of people forums are too intimidating, or they are completely ignorant of what they are and how they work.

Agreed, and because this is more constructive than "have it at the hotel or not at all," I'm sure it will be addressed next year if they plan a similar event. On a related note, I haven't followed these forums since after Tekko last year, but plan to a bit more so information gets to more people.
