OK, we have an Anime You Should Avoid now, it only makes sense to have a "You should watch this and why" post.

So, this post is for that.  What any self respecting fan should see because it is that good or that important.

I'll start:

Daicon IV - One of the most influential anime of all time, and it is just an opening animation for a Science Fiction Convention. The group that did this film went on to form Gainax, which is why there is always a bunny girl somewhere in their productions.

Macross: Do You Remember Love - Incredible animation that still holds up today.  The story is a rough over view of the Macross universe and the music is cool.

Tenchi Muyo: Ryo oki- (Original OVA) - One of the greatest Harem anime to date.  It could best be considered the "Gold Standard" because of the intersting characters, their interactions, the sci-fi element, and the humor.

You are up!
Your fate is mine to decide

If you want to increase your hipster cred or just like high fantasy with an quirky sense of humor, I'd go out and find a copy of Scrapped Princess.  It's a show about a girl who is destined to destroy the world when she turns 16, and the people who have sworn to protect her.  The cast is engaging, the world and the humor is...interesting (especially if you've read the novels), plus Crispin Freeman and Yuri Lowenthal are involved.

Why is it hipster?  Well, this is a Studio BONES show, and three days before the last episode aired in Japan, Studio BONES next work premiered.  You may have heard of it.

That's right; like Studio BONES before it was cool.
