So for Tekko XI my wife is cosplaying as Eru from "Upotte!!" and this cosplay practically requires an airsoft gun; a gun to distinct to have "magazine out".

Now if im to understand the rules "cannot be made to load or accept ammo"; Which leads to my question. without "de-mil-ing" an airsoft gun, could i remove the spring from the magazine so that even if ammo were present (which it wouldn't be) there would be no possible way for it to load ammo? a move that would be 100% confirm-able by safety & event staff.

This was what was made understood to me this year with my Duke pistol, however i was ordered, very aggressively/with additude, that the magazine be removed and if it wasn't i would be ordered to leave; dispite my meeting all requirements of having an empty weapon, unable to load ammo, and clearing the chamber of my own accord in good faith.

With a pistol this wasnt a HUGE deal (despite my attn to detail, including the mag) but for an AR, having no mag will throw off the entire look of the weapon, and subsequently the entire cosplay; i want to avoid this without having thrown tons of money out the window on cosplay and her gun.

Suggestion? put the tape with the staff's intials that the magazine is unable to load ammo; on the side of the mag itself (the side away from photos ops; ie: facing the person) for easy checking by floor staff, and easily confirms that the weapon was safety checked at a glance.

Emailed Phil Snyder The following: (this is a portion of my full email)

] [/size]My suggestion is as follows for the end user (attendee); If the gun is "de-militarized" it cannot be made to fire. this could be done by plugging the barrel of a cheap airsoft gun with hot glue, this however is a permanent de-milling. An easier solution would be to remove the loading spring from the magazine (or all magazines if the costume has multiple mags in pouchs, ect.). This would prevent the magazine from being able to load any ammo into the chamber. and the spring could be replaced after the convention restoring it to its original glory.

For your staff this wouldn't take anymore time to check and verify. when an attendee comes into con ops the procedure would be as follows:

1) Remove the magazine and hand it to the Staff for examination;

-99% of all airsoft guns have a visible load count indicator on the side of the mag in the form of a long slit so you can check for ammo, and see if there is or is not a spring in it.

2) Attendee cocks the weapon, if able, by pulling back a slide of a pistol,charging handle of a rifle, pump on a shotgun, lever on a lever action. Point the weapon in a safe direction (possibly at a box with a pillow or jacket in it? In the event the weapon isnt clear this will reduce ricochette) and pulling the trigger. This indicates nothing is in the chamber of the weapon

-I find a deep box with a jacket/hoodie works best for catching pellets. else get one of those catch/indoor targets at walmart for $15

3) Now the weapon is declared safe for prop usage and tagged as such in your standard name/initial on tape or label. Place a label on the bottom of the magazine declaring it is de-milled and on the bottom (or attendee's choice) of the weapon declairing it has been checked for safety as well.

If the barrel is plugged or the weapon cannot be cocked (if the attendee de-mills it by gluing it shut for example) then a magazine check is unnecessary.

i have spoken directly with tekko higher-ups on the matter and was assured that prop "guns" will be allowed with magazine in provided the magazine cannot load ammo; which as i stated is simply removing the spring; and was assured that anyone working prop check would be notified of this as not to cause confusion like last couple years. i feel confident that my issue has been resolved and wont be a problem :)
