The fact that you are forced to pay full reg to even go is so annoying. You can't pay for just one day. I personally enjoyed going Sunday just to do the dealers room. But since you have to pay 50 just to get in I haven't been to a tekko in years. Please someone who runs tekko read this and fix this. Not all of us want to drop 50 for just one day.

There is a Sunday-only badge, which costs $20.  Also, the full $50 registration fee is good for all three days.

It is posted on our registration page.  Scroll down to where it says "Matinee."  And yes, we have been doing Sunday only badges for a few years now.

Not only have sunday-only badged been an option for a long time now, but there are very, VERY few people who WANT a one-day-only badge. The vast majority of con goers (for any con, not just tekko) will always want to go for as much time as they possibly can. The amount of con goers who actually want or make use of a one-day badge, or who only want to go for one day, is probably less than 1%.

The bottom line is that, for the vast majority of people, a one-day badge is useless. Tekko is nice enough to offer them for the few people that do want them, but I feel its kind of ridiculous to say 'read this and fix it" when you are one of very, very few people who see it as a problem needing to be fixed in the first place. The other 99% of us couldnt care less if there is a one-day badge or not, so its kind of silly to make it out to be some huge problem thats plaguing all tekko-goers everywhere.

I hate that too, other cons have individual day badges I think this is just a way to get money out of people.

There's also a matinee badge, which gets you into Friday's events.  You can also pre-reg for at least $10 off full weekend price if you do it early enough.

Actually there are a ton of people who want a one-day only pass. Facebook gets flooded with people who ask how much a Saturday only badge is, and then they say "well I can't go then" when hearing it is $50.

If Tekko wants to become more than just Pittsburghers, they've got to add one-day passes like the growing cons of Ohio. If you're traveling in from out of state, you may be only able to stay at the con for 8 hours. $50 for that is ridiculous.

I'm not going to get deep into this argument but you're dead wrong and we have in the past posted the numbers to prove it.  The no Saturday only badge thing is not a decision we came to lightly and it is not just the organization grabbing for cash (Though the cost-benefit differential for a Sat. only badge is admittedly staggeringly bad for the show)

Yes, there are TONS of people who ask on FB about one day passes. But what youre missing is that there are tons MORE who DONT. Lets say, just for example, 400 people post asking about one day passes.
400! Thats a lot right? Clearly, a lot of people who want one day passes, right?

Wrong. If 400 people posted about one day passes, then that means 3,700 + DIDNT ask about them. (The cons attendance this year was, I believe, about 4100)
Trust me, the VAST majority of con goers go (or want to go) for the whole weekend."

On a related note, if yore coming from out of state... WHY would you only want to go for 8 hours? o_O that makes zero sense. if youre coming from out of state, youre looking at at LEAST a 2 hour drive. Who in their right mind would drive 2 hours to and from a con, but only spend 8 hours there? a long drive is ONLY worth it if youre going the whole weekend.

I would also like to point out that a Saturday-only badge a few years ago was $50 and what was at door general admission the last 2 years?

$50.

Just because most people don't use it isn't a valid argument. Most people aren't handicapped but building still have to have wheelchair ramps and elevators.

Actually, no. Buildings are NOT required to have wheelchair ramps and elevators. If you go to the mall, a restaurant, the zoo, an office building, or whatever else, theyre not REQUIRED to have any form of handicap access, because they are privately owned buildings, not publicly owned like, say, a school or government building.

Public buildings that are open to everyone are required to have ramps and elevators, private buildings are not.

For example, a hospital, school, government building, or other public structure MUST, by law, be accessible to everyone, so they must have ramps.
On the other hand, a private business such as a zoo has no legal obligation to allow anyone in if they dont want to, so theyre not required to have ramps. Most such businesses still choose to have ramps, because theyre good for business, but theyre not required to have them.

If you went to city hall in a wheelchair, and they werent accessible, you could sue because you have a right as a citizen to attend public city meetings and such.
If you went to an art gallery in a wheelchair, and they werent accessible, you would just have to deal with it, because they are a private business and have no legal obligation to accommodate you. If they choose not to accommodate you, they simply lose your business, but they are fully within their rights.

Similarly, tekko is not a public place or organization. It is a privately owned and operated organization, and therefore, is not required to accommodate anyone. You cant use the argument of "A few people want it, so they HAVE to provide it, just like hospitals HAVE to provide wheelchair ramps for the few handicapped people." because the laws that govern public entities, and the laws that govern private businesses are far from the same.
They have no obligation to offer their services to any given person at any given time. Of course, they try to offer their services to as many people as possible, because thats just common courtesy and good business sense.

But lets be clear about this; Tekko is NOT required or obligated to accommodate you or anyone else. PERIOD.

Frankly, it makes no sense, from a financial perspective, to offer one-day badges at all. The number of people who actually use one-day badges is a tiny, tiny fraction of Tekko's overall attendance. They could, and realistically, should get rid of one day badges altogether. But you know what? They keep offering them because they want us to be happy.

So, how about you step back, look at the big picture and REALITY, get over your unjustified sense of entitlement, and realize that tekko doesnt HAVE TO offer you jack diddly crap. And then, be grateful that Tekko staff are generous enough to STILL offer you a one-day badge, even though its bad for business. (As opposed to only offering weekend badges.)

TL;DR version;

Tekko doesnt HAVE to offer you, or any other given person, any kind of badge at all.

They only offer one day badges because they are being nice, even though only a teeny tiny fraction of their attendees use them.

Public places like gov't buildings and schools are required to be accessible to everyone, and accommodate everyone, because they are PUBLICLY owned.

Private organizations like Conventions, stores, and restaurants are not required to be accessible, and only accommodate people they CHOOSE to, because they are PRIVATELY owned.

A gov't building cannot legally deny any citizen who has a right to be there.

A private organization can deny entry to anyone they choose, for any reason or for no reason at all, because no one has a right to utilize a private organizations' services.

Tekko does not HAVE to offer you a one-day badge. They do not HAVE to allow you to attend the convention at all.

Stop acting like youre entitled to these things. You are not ENTITLED to anything at all. Attending a privately owned and operated event is a PRIVILEGE, which Tekko would be fully within its rights or TAKE AWAY from you at any time, with no obligation to give you any reason.

Be grateful tekko is generous enough to offer one-day badges even though its not as good for business as weekend-only badges.

Why would you want to drive for hours for only 8 hours? [I do believe Saturday runs roughly 15-16 Hours]  Planning for a weekend event is not that difficult.  I do it several times a year for multiple cons.  I remember a story of a family that drove several states to get to the first Anime Boston and did not pre-reg (if you're looking to save money, this is a great way to do so):  They arrived after the attendance cap was hit due to unexpected level of people showed up to the con.  I do believe that they got in, but it would have not been an issue with a bit of easy planning.  $50 is not ridiculous for the amount of space and programming we do offer.  We have been good at cutting costs to keep it $50, since honestly it would be nice if it was more:  We can afford better equipment and guests to give you a better show every year.
